Tottenham Hotspur have made their most significant move yet in this year’s transfer market.

The Welshman, who spent six years at Tottenham before joining Real Madrid in 2013, is thought to be closing in on a return on a season-long loan deal.

Following Sunday’s disappointing defeat at home to Everton, losing 1-0, Spurs have launched a sensational bid to bring Gareth Bale back to the club.

Spurs managed only five shots on target as Carlo Ancelotti’s side secured an impressive win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

So far, Madrid’s business in the transfer window has amounted to recalling Martin Odegaard from his loan at Real Sociedad.

If he does return, there will be several winners and losers from the deal.

Securing Bale on loan seems a much more financially viable option, but if the former Southampton youngster were to choose Spurs, it would leave United with a transfer headache with less than three weeks of the transfer window remaining.
