Heung-min Son opened the scoring early in the second half before Jan Vertonghen doubled the advantage.

Fernando Llorente made it 3-0 with a glancing header from a corner to all but secure a place in the quarter-finals for Spurs.

And Arsenal legend Lee Dixon has said it was a challenge to see so many happy Tottenham fans at Wembley.

The pundit was working for the BBC on radio.

He said: “It's possibly the hardest thing I've ever done this. So many Tottenham fans down below walking past me looking so happy!

“But Spurs fully deserve this win.

“Dortmund fell apart under the pressure and the intensity from Tottenham; they just couldn't deal with it.

“The first goal came at a brilliant time.

“Each man did a little bit more at the start of the second half.

“But as a player you will say 'half time' the fans can go off and say what they like but Mauricio Pochettino will have to tell his players it's only 'half time'.

“But it will be a tough ask for Dortmund to go on and beat this Tottenham side now.”

Tottenham were convincing throughout against Dortmund even without Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

And former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp reserved special praise for Vertonghen.

He said: “Jan Vertonghen never stopped in the second half. Both full-backs pushed forward at every opportunity.

“Dortmund went missing. Spurs completely overrun them in the second half.”

The second leg takes place on Tuesday, March 5.
