According to Football Insider, Spurs are preparing to move for the youngster when the transfer reopens in January.

The north London club made a move for the star in the summer before he ended up putting pen to paper on a new five-year contract.

Tottenham are going to be in the market for a centre-back in the coming months.

Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are currently set to leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts next summer.

“We are a different club at this level,” Mourinho told Sport TV.

“We are not a club that is going to make big transfers in the market, nor is it going towards players who are already developed or at a certain level of expectation, also economically.

“I would definitely say no because Bruno is a player of a level and a value that is not for us.”

Last summer Spurs tried to sign Bruno Fernandes from Sporting, and now Mourinho has ruled Tottenham out of the running.
