Pochettino hints his ‘vision’ was not accepted by the board

Mauricio Pochettino has conceded he made mistakes while in charge of Tottenham Hotspur but believes “sometimes the vision of a coaching staff is not accepted by the club management”.

The Argentine was relieved of his duties in November last year and replaced Jose Mourinho, less than a year after taking the club to its first Champions League final.

It was an emotionally charged moment when he did leave North London, and he has since revealed he would like to one day come back to the club.

Now, in an extensive interview with Spanish outlet El Pais , Pochettino has opened up about his time at Spurs and how it came to an end.

“We live in a results environment where it seems that all the things that have a good result are the ones that serve, but how do you measure what works or not?” he said.

“Only the one who wins or the one who exceeds expectations? After the Champions League final, four years in the top four, two years without signing [new players], a different management strategy was needed.

“Sometimes the vision of a coaching staff is not accepted by the club management. We anticipate what could happen. You need to fall, be down and then go up, but Tottenham made the decision to separate us after five and a half years. I understand that it is a long time.”

Tottenham Hotspur hold no desire to sell Tanguy Ndombele this summer, football.london understands.

Ndombele, 23, joined Tottenham from Lyon last summer and after a difficult first season in North London has been linked with moves to Barcelona, Bayern Munich and more recently Inter Milan.

The French midfielder started just 17 games for Spurs in his first season and has struggled throughout the campaign with niggling injuries.

Reports in Italy had suggested that Inter were close to reaching a breakthrough with Spurs and that Ndombele’s time in the capital was coming to a close.

However, football.london has learned that chairman Daniel Levy is not keen to sanction a deal for Ndombele, while Jose Mourinho feels the player can be a significant contributor for the club next season.

Tottenham set to lose out on Mike Maignan transfer

Tottenham look unlikely to sign Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan, according to Le10 Sport .

Maignan, 25, joined Lille from Paris Saint Germain in 2015 and has become one of the better goalkeepers in Ligue 1.

That hasn’t stopped speculation about his future from surfacing, with the French club keen to generate funds through transfers this summer.

The signing of Greek international Orestis Karnezis, as part of the deal that took Victor Osimhen to Napoli, has cast further doubt about Maignan’s future at the club.

The report states that Jose Mourinho is keen to add the stopper to his squad as a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.

Spurs would be unable to offer the goalkeeper the number one spot, however, and that could allow Chelsea to steal in.

According to a report in The Sun, the Blues are ready to make a move for Maignan and offer him the chance to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga.
