TOTTENHAM 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED

48: Son, who’s heading off to the Asian Cup after this match, starts with a decent run and effort from distance. No match for David de Gea.

TOTTENHAM 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED

45: And we’re back underway folks. No changes for either side. Can Spurs bounce back?

Twitter round-up

Daniel: Paul Pogba playing gorgeous passes, Anthony Martial running at players, Marcus Rashford finishing chances. These players weren't bad, they were broken by their manager.

James: That pass from Pogba and that finish from Rashford are both world class. Devastating. This is about as far removed from those god awful first halves under Mourinho as you’ll get. Enthralling 45 mins of footie.

Piers: Wow. Sensational pass by Paul Pogba, clinical finish by Rashford. Hate to say it but maybe this Solskjaer thing is for real... United look a top class team again. Very irritating.

Yes, that is the one and only Piers Morgan chiming in at the bottom there.

TOTTENHAM 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED

HT: And that’s the break. Manchester United take a one-goal advantage with them to the dressing room. And you have to say - they deserve it on the balance of play.

TOTTENHAM 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED | RASHFORD

44: The Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revolution continues as Manchester United make the breakthrough in style.

Kieran Trippier gifts the ball to Jesse Lingard on the halfway line. He finds Paul Pogba, who takes one quick look and plays a divine 40-yard pass to Marcus Rashford.

The England forward skips past Jan Vertonghen before drilling the ball into the bottom corner. Clinical.

43: Fight, fight, fight! We’ve got handbags here at Wembley with Kieran Trippier and Anthony Martial involved. The Spurs full-back felt that Martial should have put the ball out of play when Moussa Sissoko went down injured again.

He didn’t. United continued to play and when the ball finally went out of play the pair exchanged shoves. No cards, just a warning. Pochettino opts for Erik Lamela to replace Sissoko.

41: Oh… scratch that. Erik Lamela strips off ready for action but Moussa Sissoko returns to the field. I suspect he’s going to try and make it to half time.

38: Injury! Moussa Sissoko is down injured. He pulled up when trying to break free down the right flank and grabbed his hamstring.

Erik Lamela and teenager Oliver Skipp start warming up. Experience or youth to replace the French international?

35:Ten minutes until the break but it remains goalless here at Wembley. It’s an entertaining 0-0 though with plenty of chances for both sides. You just sense that chaos will ensue when we get the first goal…

32: Disallowed goal!Harry Kane launches into his iconic celebration but it’s been cut short. Dele Alli knocks Trippier’s cross back across goal where the England star converts. Big call from the linesman, but the right one.

30: Vertonghen looks to have shaken off whatever was bothering him in the early stages. Matic is given a warning by referee Mike Dean after tugging Son back on the halfway line.

27: Couple of half-chances either way as this clash continues to live up to the hype. A corner drops kindly for Harry Kane but a wall of red shirts come flying at him to make the block. Anthony Martial than obliges to cries of “shooooooot,” with a wild effort.

24:  "United look like the Manchester United of five, 10 years ago - the speed of the attack, running at players, being direct. The Tottenham defence don't like it at all,” says a rather pleased Gary Neville in the commentary box. Can’t argue with him - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have looked good.

21: Save! Manchester United actually look like Manchester United. Bizarre. Anthony Martial takes Kieran Trippier out of the game with some quick footwork before drawing a smart save from Hugo Lloris.

18: Vertonghen has picked up an injury. He’s trying to continue but I wouldn’t fancy playing against this lightning-quick counter-attack when hobbling. I’ll keep an eye on that.

15: Aaaannnd there’s Tottenham’s second warning.

Manchester United are breaking with real speed and purpose and again catch Spurs cold. This time the visitors force a three on two with Marcus Rashford firing at Lloris.

13: Terrific tempo to this match with Manchester United have a real go! Ashley Young breaks clear down the right flank and tees up a cross for Jesse Lingard, who has time to take a touch but blazes high and wide.

Paul Pogba follows that with a fairly tame, angled drive straight at Hugo Lloris.

10: Close!Nearly the opener for Tottenham. Son carves Manchester United wide open with a delicate ball through to Harry Winks, who pulls the shot wide of the target.

Just taking a look at some wrestling inside the United penalty area where Ashley Young has his arms all over Harry Kane. Nothing given.

8: More Mike Dean folks… this time he’s warned Ashley Young for being a little too eager in the challenge.

6: As I said before, there’s an air of spice to this fixture. Paul Pogba slides through the back of Harry Kane before the Spurs striker returns the favour. Mike Dean signals for the pair to calm down but keeps his cards in his pocket.

3: I’m sure self-appointed head of the Paul Pogba appreciation society, Graeme Souness, will take note of the fact Paul Pogba knocked his first pass of the match straight into touch.

Kieran Trippier puts in a fine ball from the right but Harry Kane can’t connect. Bit too heavy for the England talisman.

TOTTENHAM 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

1:And we’re underway for the penultimate Premier League fixture of the weekend. Manchester City are at home to Wolves tomorrow. Wait, why would you guys care about that.

Here they come!

16:25: Big noise from this packed-out Wembley crowd as the two sides emerge from the tunnel. Nice bit of spice in the air this afternoon - but Mauricio Pochettino and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer share a warm embrace.

The Dean…

16:20: Something to look forward to, folks. Well, for the neutral to enjoy.

And that’s referee Mike Dean officiating. He has taken charge of 16 Premier League games this season and has sent off NINE players, booking 68. Far more than any other referee.

Twitter round-up

Benjamin: Manchester United supporters sure are exuding overconfidence about this match. It’s like time froze a decade and It’s ‘only Spurs lads’ mentality from 2009. It was nice to see them have to squirm for awhile, but they’re back to their ‘we’re the biggest club in the world’ attitude again.

Alan: Hope there won't be a massive overreaction if we lose today. Spurs away is a very tough game for anyone.

Josh: No idea what to expect from United today, Spurs are flying right now but Wolves shocked them here so i don’t see why we cant! Ole’s biggest test is here, going 2-1 United cmon lads!

Update…

16:05: Everton have beaten Bournemouth 2-0 wth a stoppage-time killer from substitute Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Cherries had been banging at the door but Eddie Howe’s side suffer yet another defeat.

Mauricio Pochettino tight-lipped

16:00: Mauricio Pochettino is not focused on the goings on at Manchester United. Of course he’s not…

The Argentinian, who has said he would like to stay at Spurs for the next 20 years, was not willing to give an answer to why United have improved so dramatically since his friend Jose Mourinho's sacking, with Solskjaer winning his first five games in charge.

"I think from the distance it's so difficult," he said. "Of course I cannot be unfair with both managers. After Mourinho the reality is that they've won five games in a row.

"Always you know that when a new person arrives, or manager, it's like refreshing the atmosphere at the club, and for many players that maybe didn't play with another manager, it's an option to play more.

"It's a new voice that motivates you. But of course I'm not going to judge. It's so unfair to judge Ole because he's won five games or lost five games.

"It's not fair to judge in both ways and it's not fair to judge Mourinho's job. Mourinho is one of the best managers in the world. For different reasons that I don't know, cannot perceive, his relationship stopped with the club.”

Gareth Southgate?

15:55: Forget Mauricio Pochettino or Mauricio Pochettino… It’s waistcoat wearing Gareth Southgate on the shortlist for the Manchester United job!

Southgate has dominated talk ahead of today’s Premier League encounter after the Sunday Telegraph reported that United are considering an approach for the Three Lions boss due to increasing concerns that Pochettino will stay put.

No one has been ruled in or out at this stage as the club assesses their options ahead of naming Mourinho's permanent successor in the summer.

Pochettino is the favourite, and believed to be interested in the job, but for now United are continuing their extensive and thorough managerial search.

Did get relegated in his only previous job in club management at Middlesbrough…

Elsewhere…

15:50: Absolute stonker of a game going on at Goodison Park. Everton lead Bournemouth 1-0 courtesy of a Kurt Zouma header. Seriously feisty affair as we enter the final ten minutes. I’ll keep you updated if there’s any change.

Twitter round-up

Aka: I'm just patiently waiting for 5pm so I can watch Tottenham beat Manchester United silly today... Ole Gunnar Solskjær been beating "Championship" teams in the PL and been feeling like the "saviour" LOL!

Tom: Regardless of today's result, it says a lot about Spurs under Pochettino that I now expect to beat United rather than hope we scrape a point…

Ciaran: Solskjaer vowed to attack vs Spurs and this team tore Cardiff apart in his first game. Interesting to see whether Shaw/Young play as high and how Utd cope with not having so much of ball. Big job for Matic/Herrera in the press but plenty of pace/unpredictability up top.

Romelu Lukaku

15:45: Well, well, well… no room for Romelu Lukaku in today’s starting XI for Manchester United.

It’s not been the best start to life under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the £75million striker, who is now playing second-fiddle to Marcus Rashford.

Judging by the responses on Twitter, United supporters are very happy about that indeed.

Team news - Tottenham

15:40: Tottenham make two changes from the side which beat Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

Jan Vertonghen is back with Davinson Sanchez dropping to the bench. Ben Davies is also preferred to Danny Rose at left-back.

Lucas Moura (knee) fails a late fitness test.

Team news - Manchester United

15:35: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes two changes to the side who beat Newcastle in the last league game.

Ashley Young and Jesse Lingard replace Antonio Valencia and Juan Mata. Lingard at Wembley? It’s a no-brainer isn’t it.

Elsewhere Paul Pogba is passed fit and starts but there’s no place for Alexis Sanchez.

15:30: Here come the line-ups! Paul Pogba recovers from injury, while Spurs start both Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.

Subs: Gazzaniga, Sanchez, Foyth, Rose, Skipp, Lamela, Llorente.

The audition…

15:25:Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made no secret about how much he wants the Manchester United job full time, but is up against the man widely tipped to be the Red Devils' first choice for the position long term.

Solskjaer has won his first five games as interim manager since Mourinho's sacking last month but the game against Tottenham represents by far the biggest test of the Norwegian's tenure so far.

A positive result for Pochettino will only fan the flames of those calling for him to be the man handed the reins in the summer - but what if Solskjaer wins the tactical battle?

TOTTENHAM vs MANCHESTER UNITED

Tottenham will assess Lucas Moura after the Brazilian missed the midweek Carabao Cup win over Chelsea with a knee injury. He will face a fitness test ahead of Sunday's game. Eric Dier (appendicitis) and Victor Wanyama (knee) miss out, while Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele are back in training but not match-fit.

Manchester United are set to welcome back Paul Pogba for the trip to Wembley. The Frenchman missed last weekend's FA Cup win over Reading because of a knock to the back of his right leg but United interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes the midfielder is ready to return. Marcos Rojo has returned to his native Argentina as his injury is taking longer to heal than anticipated, while Chris Smalling (foot) is a doubt and Eric Bailly completes a three-match suspension.

Last season: Tottenham 2 Man Utd 0, Man Utd 1 Tottenham 0

Last five league matches: Tottenham Hotspur W W W L W; Man Utd L W W W W

Top scorers (all competitions): Harry Kane (Tottenham) 20; Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial & Paul Pogba (Man Utd) 9.
