Three ways Willian would fit into Jose Mourinho's Tottenham starting XI

Jose Mourinho could be reunited with a familiar face this summer if he moves for Willian.

The Brazilian will be out of contract at Chelsea at the end of the season and it appears that his time in west London will come to an end after six years.

The 31-year-old is believed to have wanted a three-year deal at Stamford Bridge but the Blues are not prepared to offer him more than two due to his age.

That means a summer move looks to be on the cards for Willian, who will no doubt be keen to remain in the capital given how much his family love living in London.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for the attacker but he could potentially end up at Tottenham given his time working under Mourinho in SW6.

Willian is a huge fan of the Spurs head coach and he previously waxed lyrical about his spell with the 57-year-old.

"People ask me about the best coaches I have had. For sure, Mourinho is one of them," wrote the Brazilian in a column for The Players’ Tribune.

"We had a special relationship. He demanded a lot, so there were some conflicts, but that’s normal. He would challenge me and call out my mistakes, but if I had played well he would also say something like, ‘today you killed it’.

"I loved his man-management, how he organised training, how he spoke in meetings. I learned a lot from him.

"Even after he left Chelsea he spoke well of me. We are still friends. Sometimes we exchange messages.

"When he was at Manchester United he wanted me to go there. And the way in which he made that clear was always respectful."

Spurs are well stocked in attacking areas at present but Willian would give the team more depth and experience of playing in big games.

So how would Spurs look with the ex-Shakhtar Donetsk ace in their side? takes a look below.

Spurs and Arsenal have both been linked with a summer move for Willian.

In his Chelsea position

Willian is a very versatile winger and he has spent the majority of his time this season under Frank Lampard playing from the right.

However, it wouldn't be so easy starting at Spurs week in, week out as Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela play that side, with Steven Bergwijn and Son Heung-min also able to shift over despite the fact they favour playing on the left.

The Brazilian, who has 20 goals and 33 assists from his 166 games on the right wing throughout his career, would be able to play in either a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation under Mourinho.

On the opposite flank

Willian spent a lot of last campaign under Maurizio Sarri playing from the left but he has only featured in seven games in the position this season.

His numbers are even better from the left after scoring 20 goals and setting up 43 in 139 games throughout his career.

The problem for the player in this position is that he has Son and Bergwijn to contend with and it is going to take something special to play ahead of them.

Competition for Dele?

Another role the talented player can feature in is as an attacking midfielder.

Willian did play in this position 14 times under Mourinho in the 2013/14 season and he did also start there a lot in Antonio Conte's two years in the capital.

It's Dele Alli's position at Spurs but it will certainly do the England international no harm at all knowing that he has the likes of the Brazil international and Giovani Lo Celso pushing him for his spot.

The goals tend to flow more for Willian as an attacking midfielder as he has 30 from a total of 105 games.
