Darren Fletcher and Jermaine Jenas have had their say over the Paul Pogba challenge that saw the Manchester United midfielder plant his boot into the leg of Dele Alli.

Speaking as a guest on Match of the Day 2 following his former side's defeat to United at Wembley Stadium, he drew comparison to a dangerous challenge by Jonjo Shelvey when Pogba came up against Newcastle United earlier this month.

Ex-Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher was more sympathetic to Pogba.

"The more I see it, the more I think it is a red card because even if you don't mean it it's still dangerous and it's only a couple of weeks ago I saw Jonjo Shelvey do the same thing to Paul Pogba and I thought it was a red card, and Pogba was probably fortunate to get away with that one."

Referee Mike Dean gave the Frenchman a yellow card for the foul but on reply the action looked more severe according to ex-Tottenham Hotspur captain, Jenas.

"At the time, I thought Pogba was trying to plant his foot and roll Dele Alli.
