Sheffield United bounce back from VAR setback to grab equaliser at Spurs

Chris Wilder had this week defended VAR, insisting that it would be unfair to those punished by it for the Premier League to scrap the system mid-season.

Well Wilder can now add his Sheffield United team to the list of those wronged by the video assistant referee, but they still managed to bounce back from the latest ridiculous ruling to take a point off Tottenham Hotspur.

John Lundstram’s toe, or possibly his outstretched arm, may well have been a centimetre offside in the build up to what David McGoldrick thought was a deserved 60th-minute equaliser for Sheffield against Spurs.

But the fact it took several replays and numerous red and blue lines to try to find an offside against Lundstram suggested the call was far too close to make.

Referee Graham Scott was left waiting on the decision for three minutes and almost looked apologetic when he had to signal that VAR had ruled out McGoldrick’s goal.

It was incredibly harsh on United, but they showed the spirit and determination that has been so evident in their excellent start to the season to put the disappointment behind them and earn a point.
