Tottenham will face stiff competition from Sevilla this month in a bid to land AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek, according to reports .

The north London side are desperately scouring the market for striker reinforcements with star man Harry Kane potentially out for the remainder of the season through injury.

While Tottenham have been mooted to have interested in the £30million-rated forward, Sport Mediaset report that Sevilla are now 'leading contenders' to sign the Polish striker in January.

Sevilla are reportedly 'leading contenders' ahead of Tottenham for striker Krzysztof Piatek

The AC Milan forward scored the opening goal in the Coppa Italia against SPAL on Wednesday

Tottenham have made an enquiry for Piatek with an initial proposal to take the 25-year old on loan. That is understood to have been rejected with Milan holding out for £30m in a bid to recoup their investment from Genoa a year ago.

The arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the San Siro this month has seen Piatek pushed down the pecking order and that has seen him become available if the evaluation is met.

Piatek has failed to find the form he showed at Genoa at Milan and he has just five goals in 19 appearances this season, one of which opened the scoring against SPAL on Wednesday night as Milan progressed to the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

He has five goals all season and appears to be out of favour in the league under Stefano Pioli

The January arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected to see Piatek's involvement reduced

Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Newcastle are also interested in Piatek but Tottenham would hold the advantage should he look to make the move to England.

Tottenham had preferred to wait until the summer to sign a striker to rival Kane - but their vice-captain's injury has changed their approach to the January window.

England captain Kane is expected to return to training in April, and will undergo surgery to repair his torn hamstring.
