According to a report from The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur are confident of signing Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old Hojbjerg is entering the final year of his contract with the Saints. He has made it clear that he does not wish to extend his deal at the club, following which he was stripped of the club captaincy.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for the Danish international. He is understood to be one of the top names on Jose Mourinho’s summer shopping list. (h/t The Telegraph)

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will add a lot to Tottenham

And as per the report, he too favours a move to our club. And that is why Spurs are confident of landing him in the summer, provided the club is able to generate funds for the transfer.

It has been claimed that Southampton are demanding £35m for their star midfielder. Tottenham, though, are hoping to negotiate a lower transfer fee. Even then, manager Jose Mourinho will have to sell some of his players in order to make funds available for the signing of the Dane.

It was earlier reported that Mourinho would be willing to offload as many as four players to fund a move for Hojbjerg. The four names mentioned were Danny Rose, Kyle Walker-Peters, Eric Dier and Serge Aurier. However, the latter two have been very impressive since the restart and may be held on by the club.

The report adds that Tottenham would also look to use Walker-Peters, who is currently on loan at Southampton, as a makeweight in order to get the Saints’ asking price down in the summer.

Mourinho will have to sell some players to generate transfer funds

Another possibility that Tottenham could possibly explore, as per the report, is the sale of Tanguy Ndombele. While Daniel Levy has maintained that the Frenchman will not be sold, given the recent developments, that situation might change. (h/t The Telegraph)

Signing Hojbjerg would be a huge boost for us. It now remains to be seen how the club goes about generating the requisite funds to swoop for his signing.
