Tottenham confirmed on Tuesday that George Marsh signed a new deal until 2021.

The defensive-midfielder has made only one appearance for Spurs since rising through the youth ranks to the fringes of the first-team in 2017, but he may be given a chance to impress next season.

Mauricio Pochettino selected Marsh in the matchday squad on a number of occasions last season and has clearly been impressed enough by his progress to extend his stay.

The 20-year-old came off the bench in the FA Cup against Tranmere Rovers (January 4), and was named on the bench in the Premier League against Huddersfield Town (April 13) and Everton (May 12).

Marsh has stiff competition for a starting place in the senior squad, with Victor Wanyama, Moussa Sissoko, Eric Dier, Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp and Dele Alli ahead of the Englishman in the pecking order.

According to Transfermarkt, Marsh made 47 appearances for the u23s, 41 of which have come in the Premier League 2.

The midfielder will have to impress in pre-season to stand a chance of being in and around the first-team in 2019/20, but he may have an opportunity from Pochettino to stake his claim.
