Llorente will always be a player every Spurs fan has a soft spot for due to his massive impact on the club last year, but moving on from the veteran attacker for good is the right thing for Tottenham to do, and Mourinho has seemingly made the right call.

The former Spurs attacker left the north London side last summer following the expiration of his contract, resulting in Llorente taking his talents to Napoli, and months after the veteran Spanish attacker departed Tottenham for good, the club are kicking themselves for not signing a replacement.

Although Spurs are in desperate need for a short-term fix for Kane, who is set to be out until April at the earliest as the club’s official website revealed, Mourinho has done the right thing to divorce the Premier League side and Llorente for good.

If you were to ask a Tottenham fan what the club’s biggest regret in the summer transfer window was, their most likely answer would be a Fernando Llorente replacement not being signed.

The long-term injury to Harry Kane has seen Jose Mourinho having to adapt his Tottenham system, changing between Lucas Moura and Heung-min Son as the club’s starting striker despite neither player offering the no.

Whilst the Spanish attacker was impressive for Spurs in his two seasons at the club, scoring massive goals against the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City in last year’s Champions League, Tottenham should be looking at a younger name to sign this month that better suits Mourinho’s style of play.

And this could be why Llorente has been linked with a move back to Tottenham, with Sky Sports News reporting that the 34-year-old striker has been offered to Mourinho by Napoli with the former Swansea City star hardly featuring for the Serie A side this season, though the report goes on to say Spurs have turned down the opportunity to see a former fan favourite make a sensational return.
