Mauricio Pochettino says Danny Rose is “not available” to start against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Tottenham defender will be given a late fitness test to see if he can make the matchday squad, however.

Pochettino said to Tottenham’s official website: “For tomorrow it’s impossible to start from the beginning.

For Wednesday’s meeting with Dortmund, Spurs might have to name Serge Aurier or Kyle Walker-Peters in a makeshift role – Jan Vertonghen can also double up as a left-back.

Lucien Favre’s Dortmund side will be a mammoth test for Tottenham, even with home advantage.

The German outfit are top of the Bundesliga table and topped their Champions League group (A) which contained Atletico Madrid and AS Monaco.

Tottenham scraped through the group stages with eight points from six games and they can’t afford any slip-ups in the home leg against BVB.
