Pochettino held secret meeting with Emery after sackings

Mauricio Pochettino has opened up on a secret meeting he had with former Arsenal boss Unai Emery after both were sacked earlier this season.

The pair were sacked within the space of ten days last November after poor runs of form in the Premier League.

Both managers have been out of work since leaving their respective roles in North London but the former Spurs manager has been linked with a move to Newcastle United ahead of a proposed takeover.

Despite being bitter rivals at their former clubs, Pochettino has revealed that they had a secret meeting after their sackings.

“Before the pandemic, me and Jesus met with Unai for a coffee, to talk and share our experiences,” Pochettino told the Guardian.

“We were working in different clubs, we were at the enemy, and people were walking past and saying: ‘Unai and Pochettino and Jesus are now sharing a coffee!’

“It was in Cockfosters [in north London]. It was very funny.

“It has been an amazing time to review and analyse everything: training sessions, games, our methodology, our models of training … to design specific and collective works.

“And, of course, to try to adapt for the new normality, to be ready for any eventuality, because the demands are going to be completely different.”

High asking price set for Tottenham transfer target

Napoli are willing to listen to offers of around £45million for striker Arkadiusz Milik who has reportedly received interest from Spurs and Atletico Madrid.

According to Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness, the Serie A club are not willing to let their striker move for a fee lower than £45million this summer although the club are well known for setting unrealistic asking prices for their players.

However, the 26-year-old is out of contract next summer and such a hefty price tag is likely to be met by Spurs or any other club for that matter.

Milik has been in fine form this season for Napoli, though just one year remaining on his contract means that they will have to work hard in negotiations to get anywhere near £45million for the Polish forward.

Grealish update hints towards unlikely Spurs transfer

Jack Grealish’s fantastic season for Aston Villa in the Premier League has led to significant interest from a host of top flight clubs including Spurs and Manchester United.

It is understood that the North London club came very close to signing the Villa captain in 2018 before he earned promotion to the Premier League with his boyhood club soon after.

But a significant change in direction at Spurs both in terms of management and domestic form means that they are unlikely to bid for him this summer, according to football.london Spurs reporter Alasdair Gold.

"I've given my opinion plenty of times about how much of a mistake at the time it was for Spurs not to push harder to get Grealish before Villa's new investors came in and how he could have given Pochettino a vital second option to Christian Eriksen when the team ran out of steam," Gold said.

"It didn't happen and if he's not crazily priced by Villa then United and Spurs will both look at him but I'd be surprised if Tottenham bid again despite coming so close last time.

"There's a new manager in charge since those days and Grealish might not fit the bill for Mourinho as he did for Pochettino, particularly with the new midfield arrivals in the past year, even if Tottenham do need to increase their homegrown numbers."
