Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has insisted the club did not force out Kieran Trippier in the summer.

Trippier ended a five-year spell in London in July, joining Atletico Madrid in a £20million deal, and he appeared to hit out at Pochettino and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy this week, claiming they refused to disclose their plans to sell him.



"I wanted to stay.



That talks very highly about Tottenham, talks very highly about him, and we are more than happy that he is enjoying the new experience in Spain.

"On Wednesday, when Harry Kane arrived back [from international duty] he said to me, 'Did you get Kieran’s text?'

Speaking Thursday, Pochettino revealed Trippier had since been in touch through Harry Kane to insist he was misunderstood but the Argentine claims the defender, not the club, was behind his summer move.
