Kieran Trippier has now played in two of the biggest derbies in the world following his move to Atletico Madrid last summer.

Featuring in Tottenham's north London derby clash against Arsenal a number of times after joining Spurs in the summer of 2015, the right-back appeared in the Madrid derby for the first time back in September.

So how do the two compare?

Well, the England international was quizzed about this on The Beautiful Game podcast and actually made a claim about the north London derby that may not sit that well with Arsenal fans.

Given Spurs and Chelsea were often challenging at the top during his time in N17, Trippier has stated that the games against the Blues felt like more of a derby compared to the Arsenal fixture

"It's so big out here the Madrid derby," admitted the ex-Burnley man. "Even when I was playing for Tottenham I felt, no disrespect to Arsenal, but I didn't feel like it was our main derby.

"I felt it was Chelsea. I just felt like the emotion probably.

"Don't get me wrong Tottenham vs Arsenal is huge to the fans because it is what it is with them.

"As a player, for me and certainly for a few other players, the Chelsea game was a bigger game for them.

"The Madrid derbies..the pressure. Before every single game the president comes down and you don't see that in England.

"Just how family orientated it is in Spain is incredible. Just how they treated me, my wife and children, I've full respect for anyone associated with Atletico as they made me slot just straight in here and it's been perfect."

Trippier has adapted to life in Spain incredibly quickly and has so far made 29 appearances for Diego Simeone's side.

Given Mauricio Pochettino's incredibly tough demands on the training pitch during his time in north London, it has now got even tougher for the player.

"I thought Tottenham were brutal with the training sessions but it took it to an all new level," admitted the 29-year-old. "I thought I could relax in the sunshine but none of that!

"Unbelievable the manager and the way you see him on the touchline is what he's like in training. He's not doing it for the cameras.

"Always before games he's always walking up and down thinking. He takes everything in training.
