Jose Mourinho’s return to Manchester United has been given added spice after some quotes on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have resurfaced from earlier in the season when he was working as a pundit in the Sky Sports studio.

The Portuguese is hoping for a welcoming reception when he returns to Old Trafford, nearly a year on from his dismissal at the club.

Ahead of the clash, some quotes from Mourinho during his time spent looking for a new job have surfaced on social media.

Jose Mourinho appeared to take a subtle dig at Solskjaer, something that hasn’t gone unnoticed among Manchester United fans.

“I’m going to try and get a job like Ole has, and speak all the time about the future,” Mourinho said.

“I think it’s a great situation, three-year contract – the future, the young players.

“I think it’s a great job to do in such a giant club.”

While Mourinho was genuine, many felt as though the comments were criticising the current fortunes of Manchester United, who have barely improved since his departure.

Solskjaer has also fired shots at Mourinho during his time in charge of United though.

His said last season on Malaysian TV: “Man United is built around attacking football and going forwards, not stupid square back passes.

“It’s about attacking. It’s about pace, power, attacking quickly.”

Ahead of his return to Old Trafford, Mourinho was asked whether he has any regrets about his time at United. His response was firm.

“For you it’s like I left Manchester United yesterday,” he said.

“It was not yesterday, it was almost one year ago. I am Tottenham.

“Again, if you want to speak about United as an opponent, let’s speak about them as an opponent.”

Mourinho’s name was sung by the home crowd when he was working in the Sky Sports studio for Manchester United vs Liverpool earlier this season, when Mourinho made the comments about the job Solskjaer is doing.

Solskjaer believes his counterpart in the opposite dug-out will receive a good reception when he walks out onto the turf tonight.

When asked about the response he is expecting from the crowd, the Norwegian said: “[A] Very good reception.

“That’s just a testament to this club and these supporters, remember two and a half years, won trophies.

“I’m 100 per cent sure our fans, staff and club will welcome him.”
