Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier, in an interview with the club’s website, has revealed that he is glad to be back in team training after the “unique experience” of lockdown.

Football was suspended in the UK since March due to the coronavirus lockdown. The entire nation was placed under lockdown, due to which training activities had also been suspended.

During this time, the players were going through their individual training regimes at home, before the club began virtual team training sessions. However, players are now back in training in small groups after the Premier League made the announcement earlier this week. Speaking about the entire experience, Dier said:

“It’s been great. You really appreciate our training centre when you get back in there! We see each other every day, compete against each other every day and experience all the highs and lows with each other. So, not to see each other in these circumstances has been a unique experience.”

Players are permitted to train in small groups while maintaining social distance, meaning contact training is not allowed. Dier also expressed his views on the changed training protocols, claiming that the whole experience was somewhat strange.

“It’s also been really nice to be able to see people again – from afar! This has been a very strange experience.”

Dier also revealed that all his teammates had managed to handle the situation well and were now raring to get back on the field.

The Premier League is targeting a return to action in mid-June. Tottenham are currently eight in the league table, seven points off of Chelsea in the fourth place.
