Reliable Tottenham journalist Alasdair Gold has dropped the biggest hint that Gareth Bale could return to north London in this transfer window.

The 31-year-old Welsh left Spurs to sign for Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 and has gone on to win four Champions League titles and two La Liga crowns.

Bale has continuously been linked with a move back to Tottenham, but his crazy wages which are reportedly in excess of £600,000, according to The Sun, have always proved to be a stumbling block for Spurs, whose highest paid player if Harry Kane, who earns £200k per-week, according to the Express.

Earlier today, ESPN revealed that Tottenham have moved ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign the two-time PFA Premier League Player of the Year – with Madrid, who’re desperate to cut their wage bill, willing to sell Bale for around £18m.

And Gold, who was the first to report on Spurs’ interest of Matt Doherty last month, has admitted that it could happen. The Football.London reported said that Jose Mourinho’s side are pushing hard for a loan deal, but need plenty of help from the La Liga giants.

“I think it might happen,” said the Football.London reporter.
