Serge Aurier may be thankful that Mauricio Pochettino is no longer at Tottenham when reminded of his former manager's warning following his arrival from Paris Saint-Germain.

Aurier arrived at Spurs in the summer of 2017 with somewhat of a reputation, having been arrested for assaulting a police offer the year prior and using a homophobic slur to describe then-manager Laurent Blanc.

Pochettino, a known disciplinarian - most recently detailed, in a positive manner, by Danny Rose - hoped his new signing would be a reformed character upon signing him for £23million.

Aurier has recently got in hot water with Tottenham are breaching lockdown rules three times in a matter of weeks, prompting the club to hand him a hefty fine.

Should Pochettino still be in charge, he may have received a lot more than that.

When asked in 2017 what he would do if Aurier stepped out of line, Pochettino replied: "I said to him, 'I will kill you', I (would) head-butt him.

"I think it was good, we had a long chat. He knows very well how we are, what we expect from him and for us it’s so important, not only him, every player, how they behave here in the squad.

"We need to keep the dynamic we have created. I trust him, I am confident that he can succeed here and help the team to achieve the things we want.

"When you know and you meet some people, always you start to assess him from the day that you meet them and for me we start from (here) because I don’t know him before. For him I think it’s a new chapter in his life."
