Former Tottenham coach Ross Embleton compares Harry Kane to David Beckham

Former Tottenham coach Ross Embleton has compared Harry Kane to England legend David Beckham due to his impressive work ethic.

Kane has become a hero in North London following his breakthrough at the club, establishing himself as the club's third all-time leading scorer behind only Bobby Smith and Jimmy Greaves.

However, his rise to the top was a difficult one and, before making the grade at Tottenham, he had a number of loan spells and had to work hard for his chance.

Embleton, who is now manager of Leyton Orient, has used this determination from Kane as his basis for comparison with Beckham.

"I remember growing up, my cousin telling me the drive and ambition and work rate that David Beckham had as a player," he told TalkSport.

"I remember him saying he played for Essex with him and Beckham wouldn't have been in the top four or five players in the group but if anyone went to select someone who was going to make the most out of his ability, it was him.

"I think there is a lot of similarities with Harry that you can point to on that. He was 17-18 around the time that I joined Spurs and the one thing I used to see was his relentless attitude to work and practice.

"Some of the goals that you are seeing now, driving it into the far corner, you used to see him practicing those techniques time and time again, with and without a goalkeeper.

"You can never really predict that someone is going on to those heights but what you could see was that he was never going to fall short, he was always going to make the most of what he's had and I think he has done that in abundance. You could see that he was going to do everything inside of him to be the best player that he could be."
