Mauricio Pochettino could be about to make his return to management, with Benfica reportedly interested in appointing the former Tottenham Hotspur boss.

The Argentine has been out of work since his departure from Spurs in November, but could now be offered a route back into management.

Pochettino has been linked with a number of jobs since leaving North London, most notably Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Having seen his side improve markedly since the turn of the year, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks set to stay on at Old Trafford, meaning it seems an unlikely destination for Pochettino now.

And previous links to the job at St James’ Park have now quietened down now, with the proposed takeover of Newcastle continuing to be delayed.

According to Portuguese outlet Record, Benfica are prepared to make a major financial investment to bring Pochettino to the club.

They state that Benfica are ready to sack current manager Bruno Lage, despite being just three points behind league leaders Porto with six games to go in the season.

The 48-year-old has been out of work since being sacked as Spurs boss in November, following a poor start to the 2019/20 season.

The Argentine had led Tottenham to the Champions League final last summer, where they were beaten by Liverpool in Madrid, with Pochettino failing to land a trophy during his time in North London.
