With Tottenham reportedly close to hiring Luis Campos as their new director of football, what could this mean for the Premier League club in the short term?

The Portuguese’s contacts in the game are second to none, while he has a brilliant track record for recruiting young players who become the stars of tomorrow. So with that in mind, what signings could Spurs make this summer should Campos pitch up at the club? Here are five possibilities...

Benoit Badiashile

Position: Defender

Age: 19

Nationality: France

With Jan Vertonghen’s contract expiring at the end of the season, Spurs could be in the market for a new centre-back this summer.

Badiashile would fit the bill as a long-term replacement.

The teenager has had a breakthrough season at Monaco, starting 16 Ligue 1 games and attracting admiring glances from rival clubs. TF1 report that Lyon have enquired about Badiashile, hinting at an ensuing bidding war.

As a former sporting director at Monaco, Campos could give Tottenham an edge over rival suitors for Badiashile, although Jose Mourinho might want a more experienced player to slot into the centre of his defence.

Position: Right-back

Age: 23

Nationality: Turkey

Mourinho needs a new right-back. Kieran Trippier left for Atletico Madrid last summer without a replacement being signed, so Tottenham could use Campos’ Lille links to address that deficiency.

Celik would be a solid addition. The Turkish international has averaged 2.3 tackles per league appearance,. according to stats website, while also averaging 1.4 dribbles.

He has been an ever-present for Lille this season, impressing sufficiently for Spurs to already be linked with a move. Appointing Campos could grease the wheels of a deal.

Position: Winger

Age: 22

Nationality: France

As Lille’s top assist-maker in Ligue 1 this season, Ikone has caught the eye as one of the most promising young players at the Stade Pierre Mauroy.

He left Paris Saint-Germain for just €5m two summers ago, but is now a full French international and continues to improve with almost every game he plays.

However, there is still room for improvement. While Ikone is an exceptional dribbler and capable of creating something out of nothing, his decision-making in the final third needs refinement.

But Campos clearly believes in Ikone’s potential and a move to Tottenham could represent the next step in his development.

Position: Winger

Age: 24

Nationality: France

It was Campos who identified and signed Thomas Lemar for Monaco as a teenager from Caen. He progressed to become one of the club’s brightest talents.

Monaco ultimately collected a massive €70m fee from Atletico Madrid for Lemar two summers ago, but he has struggled in Spain.

Lemar needs a fresh start, and he has already been linked with a number of Premier League sides.

Amongst the most recent rumours, Arsenal are reported to be weighing up offering Alexandre Lacazette in exchange for the Atleti wide man.

However, Spurs could also use someone like the Frenchman, and Campos could use his association with Lemar to his new club’s benefit.

Victor Osimhen

Position: Forward

Age: 21

Nationality: Nigeria

With 13 league goals in 27 appearances, it has been a breakthrough season for Osimhen at Lille.

He is already said to be the subject of a £75m offer from one unnamed club, according to the Daily Mail, while several Premier League outfits are interested too.

Osimhen was identified by Campos while at Charleroi, making the move to Ligue 1 last summer. The Nigerian’s movement is what makes him so dangerous in the penalty box, possessing the knack of being in the right place at the right time.

He could play as a lone forward or as a secondary striker alongside Harry Kane, and his addition would be a shrewd one.
