According to the Daily Mail, Vincent Janssen could be allowed to leave Tottenham this summer, with the 24-year-old having struggled for playing time in the last 18 months.

Spurs paid £17m for the Dutch international in 2016 and would want to recoup as much of that fee as possible, but Janssen’s value will shoot down because of his contract situation.

The money generated through his sale could go towards signing backup for Harry Kane, but how much will a club have to pay to procure Janssen’s signature?

The striker currently earns £1.8m-per-year at Tottenham but his deal will expire in 2020 and it’s unlikely he’ll sign an extension.

And while Janssen has been a flop at Tottenham, scoring only six goals in 39 games and making just one appearance in the last two seasons, he was prolific in the Eredivisie which is what led Spurs to sign him – 27 goals in 34 league games for AZ Alkmaar in 2015/16.

He won the Johan Cruyff trophy which is awarded to Eredivisie’s Young Player of the Year and attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Vfl Wolfsburg at the time.

It just hasn’t worked out in England.
