Danny Rose has named the Tottenham Hotspur manager and player from his time at the club that he would choose to spend lockdown with.

Rose, currently on loan at Newcastle United, has been at Spurs for almost 13 years and has worked under numerous managers and lined up alongside hundreds of players in the academy and first team.

While making an appearance on West Ham star Robert Snodgrass and former Rangers striker Kris Boyd's The Lockdown Tactics podcast, the Tottenham defender was asked which team-mate from over the years he would want to spend lockdown with.

"There are a few. Jake Livermore, I find him hilarious, he is brilliant," the 29-year-old eventually decided.

When asked the same question about his managers he went for one who only spent a couple of months in charge.

"I would say Tim [Sherwood], because he likes a glass of red wine," he joked.

Another manager who has impressed Rose in recent years has been England boss Gareth Southgate.

He believes he and his assistant Steve Holland work perfectly together.

"I think Steve and Gareth complement each other very well. Steve on the training pitch is very vocal and if something isn't good enough then Steve will do it publicly, while Gareth will be the one to take you aside and say 'come on, it needs to be better'," he explained.

"I think they both complement each other very well. In terms of Gareth's man-management and how he is as a coach I'd say he's been brilliant. He's been very good for me.

"I think people may think he's got this side to him where he's too nice, and he is very nice, but he does have a side to him where if he thinks something isn't good enough he will tell you.

"He will leave you out of squads as you've seen with quite a few high profile players. He's got a great balance between what he's doing right now and how he's progressed us. It's been a huge credit to him."

When looking back to that World Cup semi-final defeat to Croatia in 2018, Rose was asked whether it was a missed opportunity for English football and the squad he was a part of in Russia.

"Yeah of course because we were not far from going to a final, but I think we gave everything we possibly had," he said.

"We were unlucky. Maybe it was an opportunity missed but it was a valuable experience gained.

"You just hope now that next time around Raheem [Sterling] will be four years older, Marcus [Rashford] will be four years older, Harry wil know what it's like now to finish top goalscorer at a World Cup.

"[Jordan] Pickford will be older, Harry [Maguire] will have had four years at United.

"So the younger players, we were pretty young as a squad then and hopefully in two more years the players will have had that experience and more and it will serve them well for the next World Cup."
