'Cheap price for a player of that quality' - Pundit urges Spurs to sign £40m-rated ace

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson has admitted that he feels Nathan Ake would be a worthwhile signing for the club.

According to Football Insider, Spurs will move for the Netherlands international at the end of the current season if Bournemouth are relegated from the Premier League to the Championship as they believe the £40m-rated ace would then be easier to prise away from the south coast.

Robinson thinks that £40m is an extremely reasonable price for Ake and feels that it would represent value for money as the 24-year-old is an excellent defender.

Speaking about Spurs potentially signing Ake, the ex-England shot stopper told Football Insider: “At £40million, it’s a cheap price for a player of that quality. For a fee at that level, you’re getting a good player.

“He’s had another good season, for me he’s just not big enough for a centre-half, he’s not quite tall enough, not imposing enough but I think he makes up for that in other areas and he’s a top-quality centre-half.”

You would have to agree with what Robinson is saying here. In a world where Harry Maguire cost Manchester United £80m (BBC Sport), spending £40m on a player of Ake’s quality would certainly seem good business. Indeed, the Dutch international is an experienced Premier League centre-back these days, having racked up 138 appearances in the competition (Transfermarkt).

Whilst Bournemouth have struggled of late, sitting just two points above the relegation zone (BBC Sport), Ake’s performances have remained strong throughout. Indeed, he is currently averaging an impressive 4.6 clearances per game in the league, whilst also winning 71% of his ground duels and showing composure on the ball with 89% passing accuracy (SofaScore).

He is experienced but is still just 24; therefore, there is still scope for him to improve his game even further. If the opportunity comes up for Spurs to sign Ake in the summer and the asking price is around £40m, they should certainly take it.
