Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is eager to battle Manchester United for Leicester star James Maddison during the summer transfer window.

The Gunners are currently strapped for cash after their spree six months ago but the kitty will be filled again at the end of the season.

Arteta is thinking about signings he can land further down the line, with in-demand Maddison believed to be among them.

Wednesday’s edition of The Sun includes details of the Spaniard’s interest in prising Maddison away from the King Power Stadium in the summer.

Barcelona hero Rivaldo is eager to see the Nou Camp board launch a bid to provide new manager Quique Setien with another option in attack.

Betfair ambassador Rivaldo said: "When you know that one of your best players will be away for at least four months it's important to compensate for that absence with another quality attacker.

"Fortunately for Barca, we have a transfer window opened and I believe the club should sign a good substitute, as there are plenty of titles to fight for this season.

"Luis Suarez has been in sensational form in the last few months taking part in most of Barca's goals. He has also been a prolific scorer since his arrival to Barcelona, so it won't be easy to replace him, but Barcelona should at least try."

West Ham have finally completed the signing of goalkeeper Darren Randolph in a £4m deal from Middlesbrough.

Randolph completed further medical tests on Monday after worries about the thigh injury that the Republic of Ireland international was carrying.

But the deal was finalised on Wednesday morning, with Randolph rejoining the Hammers on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Randolph said: "I’m delighted to be back. I had two great years at the Club previously and still have a lot of friends here, so I had no hesitation. West Ham is a massive club, with fantastic supporters and an excellent squad."

Tottenham have announced the loan signing of Gedson Fernandes from Benfica and confirmed they have the option to make the move permanent.

Fernandes has joined Spurs on an 18-month deal and becomes Jose Mourinho’s first recruit since he arrived at White Hart Lane in November.

The Portuguese, who will wear the No 30 shirt at Tottenham, was linked with a cluster of Premier League clubs before linking up with his countryman.

Chelsea, Manchester United and West Ham were all credited with interest in Fernandes, who had a mega £102m release clause written into his Benfica contract.

Southampton are closing in on a deal for RB Salzburg centre-back Marin Pongracic as a replacement for Jannik Vestergaard.

The 22-year-old Croatian is expected to cost Saints around £4m and will become their first signing of the new year.

Pongracic will take Vestergaard’s place, with the Dane expected to leave the club during this window, with Werder Bremen interested.

Southampton are meanwhile battling to keep hold of Che Adams, with Leeds keen to sign the striker to boost their promotion bid.

Tottenham are in the market for a striker due to Harry Kane’s injury lay-off but former Spurs stopper Paul Robinson doesn’t think they have a chance of landing in-form Danny Ings.

The former Burnley and Liverpool hitman has been firing in the goals for the past few months and will be crucial to Southampton’s hopes of beating the drop.

Robinson cannot see Tottenham being able to convince Saints to sell the forward, who scored as Southampton beat them 1-0 earlier this month.

"[Ings] is a player who would fit in nicely, and he does fit the bill so yes, but I think there’s no chance of us getting him as he’s key to Southampton’s survival," Robinson told Football Insider. "A move like that wouldn’t be a January move, I think it would be crazy for Southampton to sell him."

Manchester United transfer target Bruno Fernandes has poured fuel on the fire as speculation mounts he is set to quit Sporting Lisbon for a move to Old Trafford.

Express Sport understands United are hard at work behind the scenes attempting to tie up a deal for the midfielder, who’s one of Europe’s most free scoring.

And Fernandes has hinted he will be heading to the north west after sharing a post on his Instagram story which provided an overview of his key statistics while describing him as an "impending arrival".

The post was originally shared by one of his agents, Rui Guimaraes, who has been trying to hammer out the terms related to the prospective transfer, which suggests he’s optimistic it will happen.

Manchester City will not sanction a potential exit for John Stones this month amid speculation the out-of-favour defender could link up with Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

It was reported this week that Arteta is planning a reunion with the centre-back at the Emirates, having coached him during his time at City.

However, the Manchester Evening News say City have categorically ruled out the possibility of Stones heading for the exit door before the end of the month.

Stones has lost his place in Pep Guardiola’s team to Fernandinho and had been tipped to move to boost his hopes of making England’s Euro 2020 squad.

Liverpool have twice turned down the chance to sign highly-rated playmaker Jack Grealish from Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

The Liverpool Echo report the midfielder was offered to the Reds in the summer of 2018, after Villa failed to secure promotion, and then again last year.

However, both times, Liverpool gave Villa a firm no and instead decided to pursue deals for Jurgen Klopp’s actual transfer targets.

The revelation comes amid speculation Liverpool are interested in Grealish now, which the Echo claim is wide of the mark.

Chelsea are eager to complete a deal for Real Madrid ace Isco and play the midfielder in front of N’Golo Kante in the heart of Frank Lampard’s team.

Express Sport revealed towards the end of 2019 that Chelsea had been offered the opportunity to get Isco on board in the January transfer window.

Now Spanish publication El Desmarque claim Lampard and co. are eager to do business with Real to bring in the £47m-rated Spain international.

The Chelsea boss is said to be planning to utilise Isco and Kante in midfield, with the former operating ahead of the latter.
