3 Reasons Why Gedson Fernandes is a Pointless Signing for Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have announced the signing of Gedson Fernandes on an 18-month long loan deal with an option to buy permanently for reportedly €50million.

As a result, signing Gedson when there are other pressing concerns doesn’t seem like the wisest move.

There is always a chance for signing to go wrong but in this case, Spurs do have the benefit of not signing him permanently as he is simply in London on a loan deal.

The Portuguese becomes the first signing of the Jose Mourinho era and while he has his talents, he is not the right man for the Londoners.

Adding him might give Spurs more options, like playing Lo Celso or Ndombele further forward, but that doesn’t change the fact that he is nothing more than a luxury signing at this point.

Indeed, the likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Moussa Sissoko already fall in that category and so does Giovanni Lo Celso to an extent.

The truth is that Gedson had been struggling to nail down a starting spot at Benfica.
